Free Choice Reading
For the next four weeks, you will be reading a fiction book of your choice. You will be responsible of getting the book you choose yourself or you can borrow a book from my library, as long as it's not a book we'll be reading this school year. You may choose any fiction book you'd like, however magazines, newspapers, comic books, or online reading will not be accepted for this assignment. You should spend a MINIMUM OF TWO HOURS per week reading your novel.
I. You will be required to post a total THREE POSTS on your blog for this reading assignment.
II. The posts will be reading response posts. You will choose 2 different questions to respond to for each post. Respond to a different question for each post. Using the response guidelines, write one - two paragraphs when answering each question, so total each post should be two - four paragraphs. This writing assignments is about QUALITY no QUANTITY, be sure to write thoughtful and throughly responses.
III. HEADINGS and TITLES: All assignments must have the proper title and heading information. In the title section of your blog post, write Weekly Reading Response. Then copy and paste or type out the heading format below. Any incomplete or missing heading information will result in HALF-CREDIT for that assignment. (see below for heading; can copy and paste).
IV. NO CREDIT FOR LATE WORK: All posts must be done by FRIDAY Morning 9 AM.
1st post - FRIDAY, February 5th by 9AM
2nd post - FRIDAY, February 12th by 9AM
3rd post - FRIDAY, February 19th by 9AM
READING RESPONSE QUESTIONS (Choose 2 per post)
1. How is a character in your book similar to a character in another book, story, or movie?
2. What does this book remind you of in your own life? Why?
3. What does this book make you wonder about? Why?
4. What character do you like most in this book and/or what character do you like least? Why?5. What was one of your favorite lines (or sentences) in what you read today? Copy it down and tell why you liked it. (It can be more than a sentence if you like, but not too long—you still need to write words of your own!)
6. Explain how the author creates suspense in this book.
7. How did what you read today make you feel? Why?
8. What do you think about a particular character's actions? Was he/she right or wrong to do that?
9. What is confusing in this book? Why? (Be specific)
10. What advice would you give to a particular character? Why?
11. What do you think is the theme (author’s message) in this book?
12. Do you think you would read another book by this author? Why or why not?
13. Which character would you like to be like? In what way? Why?
14. What other character(s) beside the main character is really important to the story? How and why?
15. Make up a motto that one of the characters seems to live by. How and why does this fit the character?
16. Which character would you like (or not like) to be your friend? Why?
17. If you could change one thing in the book, what would it be? Why would you change it?
18. What has surprised you in the book? Why?
19. What in the book upsets you or bothers you? Why?
