Chapter 10: The Shell and the Glasses

JOURNAL ENTRY DIRECTIONS

An omniscient narrator is a narrator who can see everyone and everything. This novel is written in the third person using the voice of an omniscient narrator who sees all characters both inside and outside.

For this journal entry, you are going to return to the journal writing structure. NO VOCABULARY WORDS. BUT...the length must be 3 paragraphs. This journal entry will be written from the perspective of Simon, but imagine Simon’s ghost is hovering over the island and seeing what is going on after his death. Have him write a journal entry reflecting on the following scenes:

1. Ralph and Piggy’s discussion about what happened the previous night and their role in Simon’s death.

2. Jack’s rule of his tribe (including his treatment of Wilfred and their discussion of the beast “in disguise” as Simon).

3. Jack’s plans with Maurice and Roger.

4. Jack and his tribes attack on Ralph’s tribe.

** Remember that this journal entry is written with Simon’s voice. What does he think of the way the boys are behaving and the fact that they killed him? **
